Jeweler, Amy Nordstrom takes great pride in handcrafting each unique design from concept to creation. Amy was inspired at age six by world-renowned sculptor and family friend, Glenna Goodacre. While living in Boulder, Colorado, Glenna used Amy as a model for a bronze she was working on called “Song of China”. Over the course of several days, Amy sat and watched incredulously as Glenna brought life and emotion into what before had only been a dull piece of clay. As a gift, Glenna gave Amy an easel and some paints and so began Amy’s journey as an artist.
In 2001, Amy graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a double emphasis in Sculpture and Metalsmithing from Metropolitan State College of Denver. Amy’s desire to further refine her technical skills lead her to the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts in San Francisco.
Amy works in 18K, 14K yellow and white gold, sterling silver and a variety of precious and semi-precious gemstones. She approaches her work as small-scale sculptures fusing, manipulating and drawing with the metals. In a world of mass production, her line is distinct and her hand is evident in every element of the work.
Each piece is always unique no matter the volume of the composition, large or small, the light and vitality of the form is undeniable. ” I can’t help but admire the craftsmanship and exquisite design of each piece and I’m no longer surprised when friends, or even strangers comment on Amy’s work when I wear it… which is all the time”, says client, Deborah L. of Austin, Texas.
Today Amy lives in the Bay Area with her husband and two children and continues to refine her craft. Amy’s studio is in Sausalito, California and her designs can be found in boutiques nationwide as well as on-line at www.amynordstrom.com.
